Sam Leavitt in High Demand: Kentucky Enters the Mix After Weekend Visit
Arizona State transfer quarterback Sam Leavitt has officially departed Lexington after spending the weekend visiting Kentucky. Now, the "chess match" of the transfer portal is beginning to take shape.

The former Arizona State star is currently the top-ranked quarterback in the transfer portal and remains one of the most coveted players available. Kentucky remains a strong contender after hosting Leavitt for an extended visit, but the Wildcats may face stiff competition if other SEC powerhouses fully enter the fray.

Profile and Performance
Sam Leavitt is a premier talent in college football's transfer market. A dual-threat QB, he holds the overall No. 1 ranking according to 247Sports. With two years of eligibility remaining, Leavitt has yet to commit to a new program since entering the portal.

He delivered a stunning performance during the 2024 season, recording:

2,885 passing yards and 24 touchdowns (with only 6 interceptions).

443 rushing yards and 5 rushing scores.

Alongside running back Cam Skattebo and wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, Leavitt was a cornerstone of the offense that led his team to a Big 12 Championship and a Playoff berth.

A Challenging 2025 Season
His 2025 campaign was hampered by injuries; he missed a Week 7 matchup against Utah due to a leg injury. However, he returned the following week against Texas Tech, throwing for over 300 yards in an upset victory.

Timeline of Departure
Signs of Leavitt’s departure began to surface on November 18, when reports emerged that his representatives had started gauging interest from other teams. Following the end of the season, ASU coach Kenny Dillingham reportedly gave a farewell address at a team banquet that Leavitt did not attend.

On December 9, ESPN’s Paolo Uggetti reported that Leavitt had informed Dillingham of his intent to enter the transfer portal. He eventually entered with a "do not contact" tag, meaning he initiates contact with interested programs rather than the other way around.

Potential New Coach
Should Leavitt make a specific move, there is a possibility he could pair up with offensive mastermind and controversial figure Lane Kiffin, who now serves as the new head coach for the Tigers.
